HAPPY NEW YEAR !!!

The one thing I know for sure is that God is working in my life. Often it is in the most subtle, almost unnoticeable way. Sometimes slowly, sometimes quickly but ultimately there is an "awakening" to the reality of His hand at work. In the past I have ignored the Source of what is happening in my life only to fixate on my circumstances and worry and fret over the outcome.

The Serenity Prayer says, "God, grant me the serenity to accept the things I cannot change, the courage to change the things I can and the wisdom to know the difference."

As we start 2009 a lot of us start off with the best of intentions for great change and accomplishment for this year. But after the experiences of 2008 I don't have any resolutions. What I have is gratitude that I am here, today, January 1, 2009. I am grateful for my wife and my life, for my kids and grandkids (at this time we are still waiting for #4 to come out of hiding), for great friends and for my faith and my relationship with God through Jesus.

The big question for me is, am I satisfied? No, not completely. So now what do I do? Back to the Serenity Prayer, asking God to show me how to find serenity (contentment, peace, joy) in my circumstances. And He does. How you ask? Through His Word, through prayer, by reaching out to other people. But it requires action on my part, whether it is dropping to my knees to pray, opening the Bible or picking up the phone. It just doesn't happen without me participating/cooperating.

I love the saying, NOTHING CHANGES IF NOTHING CHANGES!!

HOLD FAST

Mike
