chemo round two

It's round two of Chemo today ( there are four more weeks of radiation and one more round of chemo after this) and we are nestled in a little room all comfy while they pump it in. Today is a long 12 hours. I'm going to do what Mike loves best, and read the word of God to him while he rests.  The time is flying by with laughter and me beating him at many games of dominos. We have a private little room where I can taunt him, act goofy and make him laugh. There is nothing like messing with him to pass the time.
This morning we saw the doctor and he/they said that Mike is experiencing permanent hearing loss with the chemo. He wanted us to know that it will get worse with each treatment. Oh well, it's always something. Mike said it best, "it's better to be alive and deaf, than to be dead with perfect hearing." The doctors said that this is it, and that is where the rubber meets the road and the severe sickness begins. Oh good something to look forward to!
What else? They said they won't know if the radiation and chemo are doing their job until 2 months after the last treatment. At that point they will do a full body scan and a MRI, letting us know what the outcome is and if surgery on his neck is necessary. This is a constant waiting game, giving us lots of time to practice living in the moment and being content where we are now. For today we are choosing to rejoice and enjoy.
oh yeah, this morning Mike's hair started falling out, both on his head and his mustache. We never know what is going to happen next. We're all good today. We loved seeing everyone this past weekend and being back at church was incredible. We feel so loved and supported. Thank you all for being the hands and feet of Jesus in our lives.
Love, Susan

I saw you mentioned that you have sores in your throat and mouth from the treatment. I used to get mouth ulcers as a child and still do on occasion. I found this home remedy that helps take the edge off of it. You gargle and swish it around your mouth...some unsweetened tea (room temperature, cold, however you like it)...tea leaf tea, not herbal. Or you can swish it around and swallow it. Something about the tannic acid helps...and it does a bit.

As far as Kit, the Lord still has stuff for him to do, so I am looking forward to him getting home and getting back to work! :)

praying for you,
Josh

I am reminded of this verse as I was reading your post:

"....but those who hope in the LORD
will renew their strength. They will soar on wings like eagles; they will run and not grow weary, they will walk and not be faint." Isaish 40:31

I wrote a poem about 15 years ago and whenever I read it, it still brings comfort and encouragement to me. May this serve as an encouragement to you also:

QUIET TIME
A thirsty soul longing for God
A loving presence manifest
A broken spirit looking for joy
A gentle touch he gives
A burdened conscience looking for peace
An assurance through his Words
A quietness that renews the spirit
A quietness that gives hope

"In quiteness and in trust is your strength" - Isaiah 30:15

"The Lord is a God who knows...." - I Samuel 2:3

I love this verse. I have clung to it lately. Whatever the circumstance, whatever the emotion, the Lord knows. He "gets" me - the good and the bad - and gently leads me.

I love you guys and am praying for you. It's midnight your time right now, 9:30 a.m. for me. Hope you're getting some sleep. I am praying over you right now. Lots of loud African love and laughter, Angela

Kali`mera Susan and Mike,

Ti `kahnees (How are you?) It's so good to keep up with you on this blog....yes, we know that term even here in Cypress.

Here's a joke for today...
A young man finds the woman of his dreams and asks her to marry him. He tells his mother he wants her to meet his fiance, but he wants to make a bit of a game out of it. He says he'll bring the girl over with two other women and see if his mother can guess which is the one he wants to marry. His mother agrees to the game.

That night, he shows up at his mother's house with three beautiful young ladies. They all sit down on the couch, and everyone has a wonderful evening talking and getting to know each other.

At the end of the evening, the young man asks his mother, 'OK, Mom, which one is the woman I want to marry?'

Without any hesitation at all, his mother replies, 'The one in the middle.'

The young man is astounded. 'How in the world did you figure it out?'

'Easy,' she says. 'I don't like her!

As I was praying for you...this verse came into my mind. I wanted to share it with you..

Joshua 1:9
"Be stong and courageous, do not be discourgaged, the Lord your God goes with you wherever you go."

I hope you can get out and enjoy the sunshine. Vitamin D is very good for you.
