Forgive the sideways glance at Hoku. I can't figure out how to flip this video of her, so you'll have to flip your computer.
For those of you that don't know her, Hoku is my cousin, lives in Maui, and is one of the main reasons that we went to Maui in the first place. Loving her and spending time with her each week has changed me and my life. Hoku lived on another part of the island and twice a week we would go hang out with her and her house mates. She lives in total care facility with 4 other residents.
Hoku can't talk or take care of any of her personal needs, but she loves to play the keyboard. She loves taking drives in the car, and being outside. She loves guitar and music. Saturday is our day to call her and let her know that we love her and will be there soon to visit. They hold the phone up to her while we talk and she always smiles and makes sounds letting us know that she hears us. To know her is to love her. She is sweet, almost always happy and knows a delightful peace and contentment. WE really miss her! It's one of the hardest things about being back on the mainland, being away from her.
