It's day 14 of treatment, and things are progressing as the physicians said it would. My mouth and throat are raw, it really hurts, nothing tastes good, and it is very hard to swallow. In fact it is hard to swallow my own saliva, so I have to spit it out in a cup that I have to carry around with me. The gross out of the day was that today my kids were over, we were laughing and I spilled it on myself. Yes the spit, I spilled the spit cup on myself!
The weird thing is, that this is only the beginning and it is supposed to get A LOT worse. Is that possible? I know it is and know that the Lord holds the strength that I need for those days. As for today I am pretty good, but I feel physically lousy at the same time. I would love for something to taste good. To be totally honest I am not feeling very encouraged right this minute, though it's good to be home, it was great to laugh with my kids today, and my wife still adores me...what else do I need?
Susan loves to put these pictures of me. It cracks her up.
Happy Mother's Day,
Mike

Good Lord, I love you guys! Precious and beloved to me. I absolutely love your laughter thru this and I need to give you (and get) some great big hugs. You are both incredible and I know God is with you thru it all!
Lovey

I am laughing out loud imagining your face when you spilled your spit cup. Thanks for a good laugh.
Hey Mike,
this post reminded me of some herbal tea I have. It's by Yogi tea and is black licorice based. One is called Throat Comfort Tea & the other is Egyptian Licorice Tea. I'll mail the three bags I have if you want to try them. Maybe they'll help a little bit.
Hey you guys...How funny Ray took a bunch of pictures like that of our son (Cole) while I was at retreat...I thought we were the only ones who thought stuff like that was funny...we laughed so hard. Im glad you can still laugh!!! What a blessing to have your own little home away from home...It looks wonderful and so do you Mike!! Just thinking about you and wanted to say HI!!!

Mike and Susan,
What I have found through incredible pain is that the journey is filled with incredible grace and that unanswered questions are invitations to trust. One of my favorite verses for times like this is Daniel 2:22
" He knows what lies in darkness for the darkness and light are both alike to Him".
I pray for you daily and often,
Steve Landes
Hi Mike...you know, spitting is cool. Ask any 6th grade boy! They would also agree that spilling your spit is even cooler. Good thing you acquired those skills back in the day...they have obviously come in handy.
Blessings on you as you persevere. We trust God will enable you to go the distance.
Love and Aloha, the Johnsons
OOPA Mike....
Very funny about the spit cup....!
Don't put it down or someone might mistake it for water...!!!
Here's the joke of the day...
A tour bus driver has a bus full of senior citizens. As he’s driving, the bus driver gets tapped on the shoulder by a little old lady.
She offers him a handful of peanuts, which he gratefully eats. After about 15 minutes, she taps him on his shoulder again and she hands him another handful of peanuts. She repeats this gesture about five more times.
When she is about to hand him another batch of peanuts, the bus driver asks the little old lady why she doesn't eat them.
.
"We can't chew them because we've got no teeth", she says.
So, the puzzled driver asks, “Why do you buy them then?"
The little old lady replies, "We just love the chocolate around them!!"
Today, my goats were running amuck through the town. Some how the gate got left open and they all escaped.
Praying daily for you and Susan...

Hey you two,
Well it's 3:15 a.m. I am awake with serious heart burn and indigestion. It hurts really bad and I've been praying for myself for the last hour, and then I realized maybe God has me awake and in pain to pray for someone else, and then he brought you close to my heart immediately. I Just wanted you to know from now on durring any pregnancy related ailment(painful gas, burping up my acid and spit, throwing up, growing pains, becuase I'm getting huge!) I will stop focusing so much on myself and pray for you! The last time I saw you Mike you told me I was glowing and I want you to know that some days I still remember your sweet coment and cherrish it, Thanks for being able to bless me even in the midsts of what you were going through! Your Awesome! Susan, you gave me Gal. 6:9 a while back to cling to, I pray you can both cling to it today and that it may encourage you as it did me.
So much love and prayer,
Sarah Beers
P.S. Trinity prays verbatum "that God will just a touch you, and do a miracle in your body" wow, out of the mouth of babes!
