beach day

Susan had a great idea after treatment, "let's go to the beach!"  We are staying 30 minutes from Half Moon Bay, so we went for it.  It was a great plan given it was 90+ degrees at our place but in the mid 50's at the coast.  With the radiation I can't be expose my head and neck to the sun so I was able to keep the hood up on my sweatshirt because the temperature was cool.
We were so excited to be able to take the dog to the beach for the first time.  Talk about naive, in Maui we took our dog Haley to the beach all the time but here in California every state beach has a big ugly sign "NO DOGS ALLOWED".  We had to drive a long way down the coast before we could find a spot where we could pull off and access the beach without the signs.  It was very fun to see Kai experience the ocean.  His first reaction was to dig his heels in and not want to go down to the beach once he saw the waves.  With a little "encouragement" he got over it and had a great time exploring this lonely stretch of beach.
It doesn't take much for me to get worn out, so we did a good solid 45 minutes there and I was done.  Driving through the redwoods back home was very nice but once we got back I was butt kicked, and needed a nap.
We are working on enjoying my last 4 days before the chemo begins again on Monday. We go home again tomorrow for  quick couple of days.
How do I feel? Tired, very tired, yes the pain and sores in my mouth and throat are getting worse and the whole spit thing makes me nauseous. But other than that I am hanging in and still getting some protein shakes down. Keep praying, I need everyone of them!
With love and aloha,
Mike
